Sligo Town
Sligo, situated beside the Garavogue River, is an attractive town with a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants and art galleries.
Sligo Town itself is a vibrant place for young and old alike. It is a market and commercial town with a fair-sized student population due to the College and Institute of Technology based here. The town has a lively feel to it and there is always something going on: from the many pubs offering live music and the various musical events throughout the year, to a range of cultural opportunities, such as art, drama, and summer and winter schools. There are also many sporting events taking place from horse racing and football to regattas and rallies.

Sligo, as the “shopping capital of the northwest” is a good choice for that one-day shopping expedition, weekend city break, or a longer visit. It has a mixture of unique boutiques and and well-known multi-national outlets. Sligo’s centre is quaint, easy to access inter-connecting streets and side lanes, equally suited to those who are time-short or those who wish to meander.
The two shopping centres in the heart of the town, Quayside and Johnston Court have many multi-national brands and enhance Sligo’s attraction as a shopping destination. Along the riverside, east of the town centre, Cleveragh Retail Park hosts other well recognised outlets. And Carraroe Retail Park (five kilometres outside the City centre) offers large stores for the home.
